In recent years, Japan has become a key territory for global brands looking to expand their reach. That is why industry events such as Licensing Expo Japan provide a good way to get a company’s foot in the door and establish connections in the region.

Co-located with the Tokyo International Gift Show, LEJ runs Sept. 3-6. The event provides licensing professionals the chance to connect with nearly 2,900 existing and potential licensee companies that exhibit each year.

To give you an inside peek at what LEJ can offer your company, License Global has been showcasing exhibitors at the event over the past few weeks. To continue our series, we are taking a look at Scottish design property Peter MacArthur.

Peter MacArthur is an apparel and textile company based in Symington, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. The company specializes in scarfs and other fashion accessories based on traditional Scottish tartan designs.

Not to be confused with plaid, tartan is a crisscrossed horizontal and vertical design that leverages diverse pieces of dyed thread. The pattern is created by weaving pre-colored dyed thread together to create right-angled line arrangements.

Tartan designs are considered a cultural hallmark of Scotland. The designs were frequently worn by Scottish clans dating back as far as 230 AD, according to historical records covered by The Scotsman Newspaper.

Peter MacArthur has leveraged these historical patterns to create a unique line of textiles that it aims to share with the world via events like this year’s LEJ. To learn more about Peter MacArthur, visit them on the LEJ floor starting Sept. 3.
