PlaySquare has announced a new partnership with producer Curious Pictures for its Touchable Television software for tablets.

Touchable Television is designed to combine existing children’s television episodes with original interactive content that allows kids to actively participate in the story-world of a television property.

“PlaySquare is an exciting new way for younger audiences to view and interact with content on mobile screens. We strongly believe PlaySquare’s approach to interactive television offers the right combination of story and interactivity required by the touch-screen generation, while providing an engaging and educational environment,” says Jan Korbelin, managing partner, Curious Pictures.

In addition to providing investment for the technology, Curious Pictures will also be a production partner, providing support to PlaySquare in the development of Touchable Television episodes.

“We are extremely excited about having Curious Pictures as our partner to assist us in transforming great television into immersive interactive experiences for children,” says Alex Kay, chief executive officer, PlaySquare. “Curious has extensive expertise and a deep pool of talent and production capabilities. Their strong relationships and proven ability to produce original content will be a tremendous asset to us as we collaborate with property owners to create great interactive experiences for their audiences.”

PlaySquare’s first Touchable Television release is an adaptation of the episode “Happy Birthday Dog” from the PBS Kids’ series “WordWorld.” Released in July 2012 the episode is available for free in the Apple iTunes Store for a limited promotional period.

PlaySquare expects to release new episodes and the PlaySquare platform, a branded destination that allows children to watch Touchable Television episodes and play in a property’s story-world, this fall.
