The Royal Mint has partnered with Penguin Ventures for a new commemorative 50p coin inspired by the literary character Peter Rabbit.
The new design will launch later this year and feature uncirculated, silver proof and gold proof 50p commemorative coins. Each coin depicts Peter Rabbit in his trademark blue jacket as he sneaks under a gate in search of lettuce.
Coins are hand-painted in the style of Beatrix Potter’s original illustration. Each piece has been engraved by The Royal Mint’s coin designer, Emma Noble, to immortalize the mischievous rabbit on the 2020 version of the coin, which previously designed coins commemorating the 60th anniversary of The Queen’s coronation, Remembrance Sunday and King George I.
“The Royal Mint has celebrated Peter Rabbit on 50p coins for five years, and this year for the final time, the nation’s favorite bunny will feature on a new U.K. commemorative 50p coin,” says Clare Maclennan, divisional director, commemorative coin division, The Royal Mint and The Royal Mint Experience. “We are delighted to be continuing the tales of Peter Rabbit and capturing his latest adventure on U.K. coins, giving fans the opportunity to complete their Beatrix Potter U.K. 50p commemorative coin collection.”
The 2020 Peter Rabbit commemorative 50p coin is available from www.royalmint.com, with prices starting from £10. This is a commemorative coin and will not be entering general circulation.
