Haven Global is celebrating the 50th anniversary of “Sesame Street” with the launch of the “50 Years and Counting” art exhibit at Melbourne Central Shopping Centre in Australia.

The immersive exhibit, which kicked off Oct. 25, displays 50 bespoke art pieces from artists around the globe that have reimagined beloved “Sesame Street” characters. Visitors can view television screens that take them on a journey through five decades of the series, as well as enjoy the themed Fun Facts Wall, the Plush Wall and giant art murals. “Sesame” fans can also shop for merchandise at Mr. Hooper’s Store.

Eddie Zammit, curator of the exhibit, has brought together the work of local and international artists including Jeremy Fish, DXTR The Weird, Mighty Short, Kate Pullen and Kentaro Yoshida.

"’Sesame Street’ has built an incredible legacy over the last 50 years and has covered off on so many important and topical issues and impacted so many children’s lives,” says Zammit. “This exhibition, featuring 50 characters interpreted by 50 artists from all four corners of the globe, has truly been an honor to curate."

“We’re thrilled to have such an inspiring exhibition staged in a major CBD [Central Business District] Shopping centre,” says Yvonne King, director, Haven Global. “With a major train station beneath it, 58 million people go through Melbourne Central each year, and I can’t think of a more fitting and high-profile tribute to ‘Sesame Street’’s 50th Anniversary.”

The exhibit runs through January 2020.
