Epic Games and Gearbox Studios have partnered for the “Fortnite” x Mayhem in-game event that will see the setting, items and characters from the “Borderlands” game mix with “Fortnite” battle royale.

The crossover comes as part of “Fortnite’s” v10.20 update. It will see the free-to-play game gain the additions of new character skins and a map section dedicated to the world of “Borderlands.” The new map section will see a section of lush greenery from “Fortnite’s” map turn into the bright yellow sands of “Borderland’s” famous locales. Character skins include representations of popular “Borderlands” characters such as Psycho and Claptrap.

Epic Games partnership with Gearbox precedes the upcoming launch of “Borderlands 3” later this year. The continuation of the first-person shooter game has already been leveraged for a variety of licensing deals with companies such as Minted Labs and Just Funky.
