OddFellows Ice Cream Co. Launches ‘The ODB Capsule’
Flavors will be named after late rapper’s various stage names.
OddFellows Ice Cream Co., the Brooklyn-based ice cream shop, heads into summer with the launch of The ODB Capsule, which pays homage to the rapper Ol’ Dirty Bastard. OddFellows Capsules are curated collections of ice cream flavors based on a theme. Capsules drop at random and shine a spotlight onto the flavors that are associated with each concept. The new capsule features flavors named after – and based on – some of the various aliases used throughout ODB’s career.
“As someone who grew up listening to ODB and Wu Tang Clan, this is a dream come true,” says Mohan Kumar, co-founder and chief executive officer, OddFellows Ice Cream Co. “Shimmy shimmy ya, shimmy yam, shimmy yay – it’s the collaboration you never knew you needed.”
To celebrate the launch of The ODB Capsule, Young Dirty Bastard, rapper and son of ODB, will appear at the OddFellows scoop shop in Domino Park for a performance on June 11. Young Dirty Bastard will perform a medley of ODB numbers, alongside an array of scoops of all ice cream capsule flavors and limited-edition merchandise.
“We are so excited to start summer with four fresh flavors of OddFellows ice cream to celebrate my husband Ol’ Dirty Bastard,” says Icelene Jones, widow and administrator of the Estate of ODB.
The four ODB flavors are Ol’ Dirty Custard, sweet custard ice cream with swirls of caramel, magic dark chocolate chunks and pecan pieces; Joe Bananas, coffee ice cream with ground banana bread and candied walnuts; Dirt McGirt, chocolate ice cream with cookie dirt and swirls of Bailey’s caramel; Peanut the Kidnapper, peanut butter ice cream infused with honey and chunks of dark chocolate.
“Since ODB repped Brooklyn to the fullest, it’s only fitting that we would have the estate do a collab with the premier Brooklyn ice cream creators,” says Messiah Jacobs, chief executive officer, Four Screens Management. “OddFellows knows ice cream, and they also know hip-hop. This is one of the most creative projects kicking off this summer!”
The limited-edition ODB Capsule will be available for nationwide shipping here beginning June 10, as well as in OddFellows Ice Cream scoop shops throughout Brooklyn, New York and Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
