BBC Gears Up for New ‘Doctor’

BBC will debut actor Peter Capaldi as Doctor Who with special ‘Doctor Who’ programming on the channel and theatrical events across the U.S. and U.K.

BBC Worldwide is taking a page from the mega events strategy that highlighted the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who last November with various promotions to launch the eighth season of the global franchise.

BBC America will debut actor Peter Capaldi’s first season as Doctor Who with special programming and theatrical events across the U.S. with Fathom Events.

For the show’s premiere on August 23, comedian and Chris Hardwick will host the “Doctor Who: Live Pre-Show” at 7:30pm ET and the “Doctor Who: After Who Live” at 11pm ET. The pre-show and post-show will feature an array of guests in the studio including writer and actor Mark Gatiss along with exclusive behind-the-scenes footage. 

Theatrical events include will be 12 events in 12 cities at 12am/midnight to celebrate the new season on August 23 and on August 25, the celebration hits more than 550 movie theaters around the U.S. for exclusive screenings. A “Doctor Who” exclusive cinema event will take place at London's Odeon Theater Leicester Square on August 23.

 “Following the tremendous success of the 50th anniversary screenings, this is another wonderful opportunities for fans to get together to celebrate another major milestone and enjoy the amazing opening episode of the Peter Capaldi era on the big screen,” says Stephen Davies, director, live events, BBC.
