Viz Media has announced a new graphic novel series based on Spin Masters’ TV show and trading card game Redakai.

The first graphic novel, Invasion of the Gilfreem, debuted Friday under the Viz Kids imprint.

The stories in the graphic novels will be based on the TV series, which is co-produced by Spin Master and Marathon Media. The series first aired on Cartoon Network in 2011 and launched in conjunction with a trading card game from Spin Master.

“Redakai appeals to fans of all ages with old-school adventure mixed with sci-fi and modern gaming-based storytelling,” says Joel Enos, editor, Viz Kids. “There are aliens, bad guys and rival teens, all on a quest to conquer the mysterious primordial energy of Kairu. We're adding a whole new dimension to the vivid world of Redakai that's also a great entry point for readers new to the story.”
