Zoo Guardians, a mobile zoo simulation game created by JumpStart Games in collaboration with the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute, is celebrating 50 years of giant panda care, research and conservation at the Zoo. The game launched an exclusive “Pandariffic” celebration with in-game events and online downloadables on April 6.

“It’s inspiring to know generations of conservationists have dedicated their passion and skills to learning about the beloved giant panda,” says Julianne May, marketing manager, Jumpstart Games. “With Zoo Guardians, our team’s goal is to help nurture this spirit of conservation with an event that not only celebrates the giant panda, but also encourages adults and children alike to continue learning with them.”

Now through August, in addition to new in-game quests, here’s what’s in store during the PandarifficCelebration:

Players can claim limited-edition panda décor items to customize their zoos by redeeming the promo code found on the Zoo’s website here

  • The Giant Panda Statue

  • A familiar Clock Tower to local Zoo goers

  • And much more in-game

Fans and conservationists can download a “Pandariffic Pack,” which includes:

  • Two mobile backgrounds

  • And other panda-themed activities

“This anniversary celebrates 50 years of collaboration and conservation success for the cherished giant panda,” says Pamela Baker-Masson, associate director, office of communications and exhibits, Smithsonian National Zoo. “The future lies with the next generation's inspiration to become real-life Zoo Guardians.”
