Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT Games and The LEGO Group have announced the newest addition to the LEGO video game series–“LEGO The Hobbit.”

The video game will be based on the first two films of The Hobbit Trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and the upcoming The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, a production of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, which open worldwide Dec. 13.

Following the storyline of the films and expanding on the play themes from the new LEGO The Hobbit toy collection, players will visit key locations from the films while solving puzzles, partaking in Treasure Quests and battling Orcs and Trolls. Players can also craft magical items or build immense new LEGO structures in the game.

“We are thrilled to depict the characters and environments of Peter Jackson’s Middle-earth in LEGO form with the ‘LEGO The Hobbit’ video game,” says Tom Stone, managing director, TT Games. “Our family friendly take on these thrilling adventures will have kids and parents playing and laughing together as they build and explore in LEGO Middle-earth.”

“LEGO The Hobbit” will be available in spring 2014 for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation4, PlayStation3, PlayStationVita and Nintendo’s Wii U and 3DS systems, as well as Windows PC and Mac.
