Turner and WME/IMG’s video game competition will aim to expand the eSports industry.

Eleague, an eSports organization established by Turner and WME/IMG, and Faceit, a competitive gaming platform, have partnered to produce the “Overwatch” Open tournament.

The tournament will be based on Blizzard Entertainment’s new video game “Overwatch,” an online, multiplayer first-person shooter game.

The “Overwatch” Open will encompass an online phase, run by Faceit, for both European and North American teams, as well as regional and grand finals that will take place at Turner Studios’ Eleague arena in Atlanta, Ga. Players participating in the “Overwatch” Open will be competing for their share of a $300,000 prize pool–the largest “Overwatch” competition to-date.

The grand final of the tournament will be broadcast live on TBS, with simultaneous coverage on online platform Twitch.

“‘Overwatch’ is an exciting new game with thrilling and expertly-balanced action that makes it perfect for competitive play,” says Michele Attisani, chief business officer, Faceit. “We are confident that our capabilities as a platform and knowledge as a media partner will make this an exciting tournament for fans.”

The European and North American online phase began July 23. The online rounds will culminate with a playoff round, which will be played Aug. 26-28. The top eight teams from each regional playoff will then advance to the finals.

“This opportunity to feature Blizzard’s popular ‘Overwatch’ further expands our eSports offerings and aligns Eleague with a game that is widely embraced by the community,” says Craig Barry, executive vice president and chief content officer, Turner Sports. “We look forward to bringing the same level of production and storytelling capabilities we’ve demonstrated throughout the first season of Eleague to this championship event.”
