SEGA’s “Sonic the Hedgehog” has been inducted into The Strong’s World Video Game Hall of Fame in Rochester, N.Y.

The character, who is celebrating its 25th anniversary, will join other gaming icons such as Pac-Man and the Super Mario Bros after receiving the most votes from the public in an online polling of nominees.

The World Video Game Hall of Fame celebrates electronic games that meet the following criteria: icon-status, longevity, geographic reach and influence.
