SEGA of America has revealed details of the next Sonic the Hedgehog franchise title, which will be published on Nintendo platforms as part of the recently announced new partnership between the two companies.

The new game, “Sonic Lost World,” will be available exclusively for the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS platforms later this year and will see Sonic team up with his arch nemesis Dr. Eggman to battle the six menacing creatures known as the Deadly Six.

The game will feature both single-player and multi-player modes with distinctive features that take advantage of the Nintendo consoles’ unique capabilities like exclusive Wii U Color Powers that can be controlled with the Wii U GamePad.

“We are proud of the strong relationship between Nintendo and SEGA and look forward to continuing success with ‘Sonic Lost World’ on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS,” says Hiroyuki Miyazaki, chief content officer, SEGA of America. “The game marks an evolution of the Sonic series and fans–both old and new–will be excited by a story which sees two of video games biggest adversaries, Sonic and Dr. Eggman, joining forces for the first time to help defeat a new deadly threat.”

“Sonic Lost World” will be distributed by SEGA of America in the U.S., Canada and South America, with Nintendo of Europe handling distribution throughout Europe and Australia.
