“Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice” will hit retailers later this year.

SEGA of America will release a new “Sonic Boom”-themed video game. “Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice,” created exclusively for Nintendo 3DS, will hit retailers Sept. 27 in honor of the character’s 25th anniversary.

The new video game will introduce new gameplay elements and a new villain, D-Fekt. The single-player game will also feature collaborative gameplay components, as well as share key characters, events and lore from the “Sonic Boom” universe.

The release date “Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice” was announced at SEGA’s SXSW panel, which also looked at Sonic’s history across gaming, TV, merchandise and more, as well as gave fans a glimpse at the franchise directly from key figures in the hedgehog’s history.

SEGA also announced it will continue to celebrate Sonic’s anniversary during San Diego Comic Con (July 21-24) with a fan event at the House of Blues, July 22.

And stay tuned this May for an exclusive salute to Sonic in the upcoming issue of License! Global. If you’re a licensee interested in helping us celebrate with SEGA, contact us now for more details.
