Endemol U.K. is making its first move into app publishing with two new apps based on the game shows “Pointless” and “Deal or No Deal.”

Led by the company’s gaming arm, Endemol Games U.K., the move is a first step toward building an extensive network of apps based on existing TV brands alongside new games developed as apps from the start.

The apps will be created and published in-house as well as in partnership with specialist developers.

“Given how much fans love to directly engage with this kind of content we see exciting potential in building a far-reaching network of apps with a broad user base,” says Jurian van der Meer, managing director, Endemol Games U.K. “‘Pointless’ and ‘Deal or No Deal’ are two of the most well-known and popular game shows on TV and are the ideal brands to launch this initiative."

The “Pointless Friends” and “Deal or No Deal” apps will launch next month for both iOS and Android devices.

The new “Pointless Friends” app will see friends play against each other via Facebook or mobile online platforms in a challenge based on obscure knowledge.

Players will have an online profile showing their game history, which they can share with friends and can answer hundreds of different Pointless questions across one- or two-player modes.

The “Deal or No Deal” app will allow users to take on the show’s infamous Banker by playing solo, or else take turns playing with Facebook friends or random opponents online. The app is a branded multiple-choice quiz that builds on the game play of the television series, with the addition of general knowledge questions.
