Disney Interactive has unveiled a new game platform–Disney Infinity–that combines physical toys with digital play.

The Disney Infinity system integrates collectible character figures with a virtual gaming environment, letting players bring their favorite Disney and Pixar characters to life when placed on the Infinity base.

Each toy features its own story-driven experience, called a Play Set, where players solve puzzles, battle enemies and explore iconic locations from famous Disney properties. Throughout each Play Set players also collect characters, vehicles and gadgets that they save in their Toy Box, an area of the system where users can bring together all their characters, as well as build and customize their own virtual world.

The Disney Infinity system will launch in June across all gaming consoles, with a phased roll out across mobile and online devices throughout the rest of the year.

At launch, the system will include 40 collectible interactive pieces as well as 17 interactive character figures, the Infinity base and Infinity power discs that unlock power-ups, customizations and gadgets.

“Disney Infinity introduces a new way to interact with the best of Disney on one game platform, both now and in the future," says John Pleasants, co-president, Disney Interactive. “With this innovative approach to gaming, Disney Infinity will bring to life new characters, stories and environments from The Walt Disney Company over time in a way that will delight fans and gamers alike.”
