Virtual reality, wearables and more make appearances in innovative new products.
This year's Consumer Electronics Show, held from Jan. 6-9 in Las Vegas, Nev., was less about new tech and more about the evolution of existing categories including virtual reality, wearables and holograms.
Virtual reality continued to steal the show, with consumers finally able to buy a consumer version of the Rift headset. In fact, virtual reality looks to take a bigger and bigger share of the spotlight in coming years as outlined in License! Wearables also continued to dominate the conversation with a host of new offerings at CES.
HTC announced a new partnership with UnderArmour to develop a suite of fitness-tracking devices, and long-time leading in the fitness tracking space, Fitbit, unveiled its smartwatch, the Fitbit Blaze.
A number of advancements were also unveiled in the arena of holograms. For example, Kino-Mo showcased its hologram tech, which can be used for 3D signage.
In other news, Netflix announced that it will expand beyond its current base in the Americas, Western Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand to 130 new countries (excluding China).
