Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is tapping into the power of Wikia’s community of fans to promote the upcoming release of its new Lord of the Rings game.

The partners will first release the app “Palantir” in late January, which is named after the seeing stone from Middle-earth lore. The app will serve as second-screen companion to the upcoming console game “Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor,” with additional layers of information, release updates, guides, walkthroughs and fan-authored content.

Additionally, Wikia will launch the official community site for the console game.

The partnership is the first major release to utilize Wikia's complete spectrum of fan studio programs, which are designed for long-lead activations and custom co-development programs to help build fan engagement and awareness for major releases.

"The thriving Middle-earth communities within Wikia are a destination for impassioned fans, making the site a great choice for our official ‘Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor’ community," says Russell Arons, senior vice president, worldwide marketing, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "We are excited to partner with Wikia on ‘Palantir,’ a first-of-its-kind companion experience that will be an innovative source of assets and exclusive content for ‘Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor’ fans to enjoy and share."
