CBS licenses chess set inspired by classic series.

CBS Consumer Products has partnered with The Franklin Mint to release the first authorized re-creation of a “Star Trek” tridimensional chess set in honor of the show’s 50th anniversary.

The chess set, manufactured by Wood Expressions, is based on the set seen in episode “Where No Man has Gone Before” and includes 32 game pieces cast and coated with sterling silver or 24 karat gold. It also features three playing boards and four movable “attack boards.” The set also comes with a collectible booklet containing the history of the game and the game’s rules.

The Franklin Mint is part of the Sequential Brands Group.

The set is available now for preorder on TheFranklinMint.com and Shop.StarTrek.com, with more retailers on board beginning next month.
