Spin Master has acquired the toy company Meccano (known as Erector Set in the U.S.) in the most recent move toward expanding its global portfolio.

As part of the deal, Spin Master will maintain Meccano’s manufacturing base and industrial facilities located in Calais, France.

“Meccano is iconic. It was founded in 1901 and has always been about creating toys that enable children and adults to imagine and create completely new worlds,” says Anton Rabie, co-chief executive officer, Spin Master. “This classic construction system has stood the test of time with phenomenal lines, and we are looking forward to building a future together.”

The Meccano acquisition follows two other recent purchases–Spy Gear in November 2012 and Perplexus in February of this year.

To support the growing organization, Spin Master has also made a series of high-level executive appointments in the last year, including the addition of Ben Gadbois as global president and chief operating officer in the summer of 2012. Krista DiBerardino was named chief marketing officer and Bill Hess was appointed executive vice president, operations and chief information officer in the second quarter of this year.
