Spin Master, a global children’s entertainment company, has announced the debut of the fantasy-adventure children’s franchise, “Unicorn Academy.” The franchise includes a Netflix-original animated series produced by Spin Master Entertainment, a 72-minute movie premiere event, and episodic content slated for release this fall, followed by a toy line, digital game and wide licensed consumer product rollout in 2024.

“We are thrilled to invite kids to unlock the magic along with us at ‘Unicorn Academy,’” says Jennifer Dodge, president, entertainment, Spin Master. “Engaging characters, exciting stories and, of course, majestic unicorns with magical powers will captivate audiences of all ages. The diverse heroes from the original book series, along with the powerful bond between rider and unicorn, inspired us to create a vibrant, animated adaptation. Set in an enchanting world of magic and mystery, stories are brought to life with world-class animation, a cinematic score and irresistible songs for an immersive entertainment experience. ‘Unicorn Academy’ is a beautifully crafted fantasy adventure that delivers on all the elements of an epic story that kids are looking for. The series is filled with diverse and engaging characters, exciting stories, the dynamics of friendships, and of course, majestic unicorns with magical powers. I think audiences will be captivated by the enchanting world of magic and mystery found on Unicorn Island as they follow Sophia on her transformative journey and watch as she and her classmates bond with their unicorns and with one another. ”

Building out a multiplatform franchise experience, Spin Master Entertainment has content planned through 2025, with more than 250 minutes of short and long-form content produced to date, including original shorts and music videos.

“Our team has done an amazing job of bringing the magic of ‘Unicorn Academy’ across all play patterns,” says Max Rangel, global president and chief executive officer, Spin Master. “We want to be where kids are; whether it’s in toy boxes, on their TV screens or on digital devices, ‘Unicorn Academy’ will be there to ignite, engage and inspire new fans. Kids are going to fall in love with the experience of connecting with the characters and entering the world of Unicorn Island. This is our biggest production to date because we truly believe this will resonate with a generation of kids on various play platforms.”

Spin Master’s new franchise will release toys, digital games and publishing for its core demographic of children ages six to nine.

“’Unicorn Academy’ is by far our biggest production to date,” says Dodge. “The property is expanding beyond the launch of the animated series to be a true franchise, including fully branded experiences planned across toys, entertainment and digital games. The franchise will serve as a catalyst within Spin Master as we leverage our expertise in toys and digital games to create immersive experiences for kids who love the show. Tapping into our licensing and merchandising capabilities, we’re creating an expansive consumer products program, kicking off with a tie-in novelization with Nosy Crow (publisher of the original New York Times bestselling books by Julie Skyes). All these experiences across toys, digital games and consumer products will expand the opportunities to connect with kids and extend their engagement with ‘Unicorn Academy’ throughout 2024.”
