Puzzle brand extends lineup with escape rooms, children’s publishing and more.

The Rubik’s brand has tapped a series of licensees to further expand its presence in categories such as publishing and live experiences.

First, the company has teamed up with The Lagoon Group to create a range of products for the Professor Rubik’s brand. The new merchandise will feature vintage designs and include gift books, tabletop puzzles in tins and card sets with IQ tests and more.

Egmont Publishing has also signed on to develop a line of “clever books for clever kids,” which will highlight a raft of brain-busting and entertainment puzzles. The rights to develop a Rubik’s-branded, one-shot magazine are also included in the deal, and the U.K. will be the launch territory for both books and magazines, with the first titles set to hit retailers this year.

The puzzle brand has also partnered with Paragon Entertainment to create a series of escape rooms, titled Rubik’s Challenge Rooms. These will feature a host of different logic puzzles and conundrums to solve before participants can escape. The Rubik’s escape rooms are slated to appear at theme parks and entertainment centers across the globe.

Additionally, the Rubik’s Junior range will expand with the launch of new characters, including a dog, cat and bunny. The Smiley Company is currently identifying new partners to develop preschool Rubik’s products with these characters.
