Basic Fun! subsidiary to create Very Hungry Caterpillar-themed play tunnels.

The Joester Loria Group has brokered a deal with Playhut, a division of Basic Fun!, to launch a line of play tents and tunnels inspired by properties from The World of Eric Carle.

As part of the deal, Playhut will create a “Very Hungry Caterpillar” themed pop-up play tunnels. The six-foot pop-up play tunnel will be targeted for ages 3 and up. It will be available at retail locations and online in spring 2020.

“We are thrilled to partner with The World of Eric Carle on the new Very Hungry Caterpillar popup environments that will bring this classic to life for young fans while enhancing imaginative and educational play,” says Stephen Chernin, executive vice president, licensing, Basic Fun!

The deal comes as the Very Hungry Caterpillar brand celebrates its 50th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the property has already previously been licensed to companies such as the RHS.
