Nintendo Characters to Take Over Monopoly

Mario, Princess Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong and other popular Nintendo characters will be showcased in Hasbro’s newest Monopoly edition.

The co-branded game will see players race around the board to complete levels (buy property), collect coins (money) and battle legendary bosses to secure points and win the game. Players will also be able to choose Super Mario character tokens, such as Mario, Donkey Kong, Princess Peach and Yoshi.

Additionally, each character token will have its own power-up ability, which will introduce a new layer of strategy to the classic game. For example, landing on the Super Star board space will activate Princess Peach’s Super Star ability to collect rent from the bank.

“The Monopoly brand has been a staple in the gaming aisle for more than 80 years, and we’re excited to give Mario, Yoshi and other characters the chance to ‘Pass GO’ and bring their powers to life in Monopoly Gamer Edition game,” says Tom Prata, senior vice

president, strategic initiatives, Nintendo of America. “This collaboration is the latest example of Nintendo’s efforts to give fans a variety of fun and surprising ways to interact with their favorite ‘Super Mario’ characters.”

The standard Monopoly Gamer Edition game will be available this August at mass market retailers; however, the Monopoly Gamer Collector’s Edition game is now available at GameStop locations in the U.S. and features premium packaging and a bonus Bowser token. The Collector’s Edition will also be available at additional online retailers later this year.
