Mattel’s Barbie brand has unveiled a Misty Copeland doll. Copeland is the first African-American female principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre.
Copeland worked closely with the Barbie design team on all the details of the Barbie, including the fashion, which was inspired by Copeland’s Firebird costume from her first principal role.
The new doll is part of the Barbie Sheroes program, which honors female heroes who inspire girls by breaking boundaries and expanding possibilities for women everywhere. Copeland joins a group of Barbie Sheroes including Ava DuVernay, Emmy Rossum, Eva Chen, Zendaya and more.
The Misty Copeland Barbie doll is available now on TheBarbieCollection.com and will roll out to retailers nationwide.
