As The LEGO Group readies for the release of the third generation of its Mindstorms robotics line, the company has unveiled plans for a social brand hub and three new complementary apps.

The new LEGO Mindstorms social community allows users to create a profile, post their creations, and like and follow other builders.

The new LEGO Mindstorms EV3 line is set to hit shelves Sunday and three free apps, designed for iOS and Android devices, will be released at the same time.

“Robot Commander” turns smartphones and tablets into remote controls that include pre-set commands for the five out-of-box robots; “3D Builder” introduces the first-ever, step-by-step 3D building instructions that guides users through each step in creating the five EV3 hero models; and “Fix the Factory” is a puzzle-based game that introduces the concept of problem-solving using a basic robotics programming interface.
