Just Play has acquired the Slinky and Shrinky Dinks brands.
The toy company plans to launch new products for the properties this fall. Just Play's deal comes during Slinky's 75th anniversary. To align with the anniversary, the company plans to launch the 75th anniversary Slinky collection in the U.S. this August. The toymaker will also continue the milestone celebration at Toy Fair New York and worldwide retail in 2021.
"We are very excited to add the beloved and celebrated Slinky and Shrinky Dinks brands and team members to Just Play's family," says Geoffrey Greenberg, co-president, Just Play.
As part of the announcement, Just Play will reopen the Hollidaysburg, PA facility where Slinky and Shrinky Dinks are produced. The facility will rehire employees to maintain all U.S. based jobs and manufacturing.
"For 75 years, Slinky has been one of the most popular and recognizable playthings around the world," says Charlie Emby, co-president of Just Play and Toy Association Board Member. "We look forward to bringing this cherished product, along with the popular Shrinky Dinks, to new generations of kids."
The Slinky was invented by Richard and Betty James, a U.S. Navy mechanical engineer and his wife, in 1945. Since its debut, over 250 million Slinkys have been sold to date. Shrinky Dinks was invented in 1973 by two Wisconsin moms who created it as a Cub Scouts project and rose to popularity in the eighties. TIME Magazine recognized both Slinky and Shrinky Dinks as two of the Top-All Time 100 Greatest Toys.
