The Jim Henson Company has teamed up with the mobile company Mindshapes to create a series of apps for its top properties.

The first series to get the app treatment will be the preschool shows "Sid the Science Kid" and "Pajanimals," with digital content for other Henson franchises planned for later this year.

Each “appisode” will feature stories, games and activities, as well as animated video and music content inspired by the series.

The first, “Sid the Science Kid's Slide to the Side Appisode,” will launch in April, in conjunction with the DVD release of the upcoming Sid the Science Kid: The Movie TV event. A Pajanimals appisode will follow later in the year. The appisodes will be available for iOS devices via the Apple iTunes store.

"We recognize the importance of delivering a quality experience to kids that fits into their lifestyles and allows them to engage with our characters not just on TV and on DVD, but also on the iPad,” says Melissa Segal, executive vice president, global consumer products, The Jim Henson Company. “In Mindshapes, we have a partner who is not only a leader in digital media, but also has a keen understanding of how to engage our young audience so that they are learning and having fun."
