Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, its Washington-based subsidiary, are set to debut a new e-sports program for the company’s collectible card game, Magic: The Gathering.

Hasbro Adds eSports Program

The new epsorts program will offer all players an open platform and will also feature the Magic Pro League, a new type of professional play that includes 32 of the top-ranked Magic players from across the globe.

A slate of Mythic Championship events will see MPL players battle challengers from across the Magic: The Gathering universe. Magic: The Gathering Arena will debut next year with a $10 million prize pool across the games tabletop and digital versions.

Today is an extremely important day for Magic: The Gathering as we announce our commitment to esports and our Magic players by evolving our tournament structure to include a $10 Million prize pool." says Chris Cocks, president, Wizards of the Coast. "We are fully embracing esports and affirming Magic as a leader in the collectible card game category while providing lucrative opportunities for pros, players, sponsors, and esports partners."

The Magic: The Gathering Arena eSports program will roll out in Boston with the $1-million Mythic

Invitational in 2019.
