Fuhu, creator of the Nabi line of tablets for kids (including the DreamTab, created in partnership with DreamWorks Animation) is launching a new line of interactive toys called Morpho Pods.

Leveraging near-field communication technology, Morpho Pods merge toys, video games, interactive storybooks and custom animation to bring together physical and digital play.

The tablet-based NFC collectible figurines feature a palm-sized pod that springs open with interlocking parts that can be mixed and matched so kids can customize and develop their own creations.

The new toy line will launch this month with the Morpho Pods Dragons edition, inspired by the characters in DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon films. The Morpho Pods Dragons line will be available exclusively at Walmart in conjunction with the theatrical release of How to Train Your Dragon 2, which is in theaters now.

In addition to coming to life in the Nabi DreamTab, Dragons Morpho Pods will also unlock all new How To Train Your Dragon storytelling experiences in the coming weeks.

"Morpho Pods bring kids and parents new rich experiences that are fun, engaging and valuable," says Jim Mitchell, chief executive officer, Fuhu. "For the first time, kids can play high-definition video games, create their own stories, personalize their tablet experience with How To Train Your Dragon characters, all on their tablet with the Morpho Pods, while being able to customize their own dragons in real life, extending the traditional play value of NFC figurine toys."
