Diamond Select Toys is planning a line of deluxe gift sets featuring Marvel Comics action figures inspired by Mego's 1970s toy line.

The re-production of the World's Greatest Super-Heroes line will begin with Spider-Man and features 8-inch, cloth-costume action figures designed by EMCE Toys.

The Amazing Spider-Man will appear as he first did in the 1973 original with the addition of a removable head and costume, allowing fans to transform the superhero into his alter ego, Peter Parker, or a more modern version of the wall-crawler.

"Getting the opportunity to make the Marvel toys inspired by my childhood has long been a goal of mine, and kicking the line off with my favorite Marvel hero, Spider-Man, was a no-brainer," says Chuck Terceira, director, DST. "Offering extra parts and new outfits allow us to stay true to what made the toys great in the first place, while simultaneously updating the figures and making each one into a true collector's item."

The figure will be packaged in a reproduction window box inside a larger collector case, with additional outfits and parts in an adjacent display tray. The case will also contain a miniature booklet outlining the history of the character.

Future figures in the line will include Captain America, Iron Man and Wolverine, each of which will come with alternate outfits and parts.

Pre-orders are now open for the limited edition Spider-Man figure, which will arrive on shelves later this year.
