Mattel is re-launching its line of BeForever historical American Girl dolls with a little help from the Lifetime fashion competition series "Project Runway."

First introduced in 1986, the BeForever doll line re-launched with a fresh look Thursday featuring eight characters with historically accurate outfits and accessories, as well as new and refreshed fiction books.

Alongside the new dolls, Mattel also debuted a new BeForever line of contemporary fashions for girls inspired by the historical characters. To help launch the new clothing line, "Project Runway" will feature a BeForever-inspired designer challenge on its Sept. 18 episode. A selection of the designs created on the show will be showcased at American Girl retail stores across the U.S. this fall.
