DK will publish a series of books inspired by the girls’ lifestyle brand.

American Girl, a subsidiary of Mattel, has tapped global book publisher DK to create an exclusive collection of nonfiction books.

DK’s first title, a fully illustrated reference book titled The American Girl Ultimate Visual Guide, will tell the story of the brand, from the original idea conceived by Pleasant T. Rowland to the development of its doll lines including Truly Me, Girl of the Year, Bitty Baby and BeForever. It will also include anecdotes from the American Girl team and information on how the dolls are created from concept to market.

The American Girl Ultimate Visual Guide is slated to launch this month.

“DK is thrilled to partner with American Girl, whose dedication to bringing to life history and culture through play and learning so closely aligns with ours,” says Simon Beecroft, publishing director, licensing, DK. “We are eager to share these books with a new generation of children who are discovering American Girl for the first time, as well as adult collectors and fans from years past.”

Additionally, American Girl: Ultimate Sticker Collection is slated to launch this month. The collection includes more than 1,000 reusable stickers featuring American Girl dolls and accessories, as well as facts and illustrations.

More nonfiction books are planned for 2017.

“American Girl and DK are both committed to creating entertaining and informative content,” says Julia Prohaska, vice president, marketing, American Girl. “Working with DK on this new collection provides the perfect opportunity to present our characters and brand story to readers in a bold new way.”
