Universal is in negotiations to develop a movie based on LEGO’s Hero Factory line of robotic toys, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Unlike other LEGO toys, the Hero Factory line has a distinct storyline and mythology. The toy line comprises about 55 sets and was created after the Bionicle line was discontinued in 2010.

The Hero Factory line has already spawned a number of licensees including comics by DC Comics, an app by DC Entertainment and a TV mini-series that aired around the world on Cartoon Network and Nicktoons.

Universal’s Hero Factory film would be a live-action adaption, as opposed to Warner Bros. upcoming animated LEGO film, which is scheduled for release in 2014.

Michael Finch and Alex Litvak are in negotiations to write the script for the Universal film, which would be produced by Mark Gordon and Bryan Zuriff of the Mark Gordon Company along with Ben Forkner and Dean Schnider of Film 360.
