Toy sales in the U.K. have posted an 8 percent increase in revenue for the first eight months of 2010 compared to the same period last year, according to the NPD Group. Disney-Pixar's Toy Story has been a strong performer in the market.

NPD reports that sales in August attributed to the overall average with a 15 percent increase in value. Last month, Toy Story was the No. 1 toy license and according to the NPD Retail Tracking Service, the property's toy sales have reached £20 million ($32 million) at retail since the start of 2010. The report also noted other top sellers such as Character Group's Zhu Zhu Pets, LEGO and World Cup items.

"There have been many positive stories in the toy market so far this year, all adding up to increased consumer spending and with the most important months ahead, the toy trade is well on its way to get back to pre-Woolworths levels," says Jez Fraser-Hook, director of NPD EuroToys. "With this in mind, NPD is confident the remainder of the year will be strong and forecasts a 5 percent growth in value for the full year."
