The National Retail Federation’s Top Costumes survey shows that while traditional costumes like vampires, zombies and witches will reign this Halloween, a large number of consumers are also considering election- and Olympics-inspired get-ups.

The survey, conducted by BigInsight, shows that more than 1 million adults and kids will dress as some type of athlete this year and 767,000 Halloween party-goers will don a political costume.

“With nearly one in 10 celebrants taking their costume cues from current events, we’ll see plenty of Barack Obama and Mitt Romney look-alikes out and about for Halloween,” says Pam Goodfellow, consumer insights director, BigInsight.

Superheroes will also be popular, with characters like Batman and Spider-Man ranking in the top 10 for both children and adults.
