Disney hosted the “ultimate fan event” Aug. 19-21, D23 Expo, in Anaheim, Calif. D23 is the first official community for fans which brings together consumer products, events and the magical world of Disney under one roof.

A host of product launches, announcements and special appearances were made over the course of the three-day event.

Disney Store Worldwide president Jim Fielding kicked off the Expo with a store opening ceremony in the main hall. The store, which debuted March 28, 1987 in Glendale, Calif., is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Fielding also unveiled the new Disney Princess Designer dolls, available at D23 in limited run, for the first time. The ten designer dolls, in addition to a 25th anniversary limited edition silver Cinderella, will launch in time for the holidays.

Walt Disney Studios and Pixar Animation Studios chief creative officer John Lasseter and The U.S. Postal Service’s deputy postmaster Ronald Stroman unveiled the new Pixar stamp series, Send a Hello Forever. The series is available now and features the characters of five Disney-Pixar movies–Toy Story, Cars, Ratatouille, Wall-E and Up

Pixar also announced that a new Toy Story cartoon short, "Small Fry," will preview before the new Muppet film, set to open Nov. 23.

Fisher-Price debuted the Rock Star Mickey interactive plush with a spirited "Mickety-split" dance move and a performance by “American Idol” alum Constantine Maroulis.

Celebrity hair stylist Ken Paves announced a collaboration with Disney Toon Studios and Disney Consumer Products for Disney Fairies including participation in upcoming films and a personal product line, set to launch next year.

Actor David Arquette, First Book president Kyle Zimmer, "Jake and the Neverland Pirates" star Corey Burton and Disney announced the donation of $500,000 and eight million Disney Publishing Worldwide books to First Book.

Marvel made its debut at D23 with the panel presentation Marvel: The House of Ideas, an exclusive look at the evolution of Marvel from its first comic book in 1939 to its current position as a leading film and creative production studio. Joe Quesada, Marvel’s chief creative officer, hosted the session.

Disney Store and designer Kidada Jones showed the newest Wish-a-Littles mini-figures from the exclusive Charming Collection. Characters Ariel, Alice, Jasmine and Tinker Bell are reinterpreted whimsically by Jones and enclose a charm necklace inspired by their stories. The Charming Collection launched this summer and features jewelry, apparel and limited edition Jones-designed vinylmation.
