Disney Consumer Products has named Josh Silverman executive vice president of global licensing for Disney and Marvel.

Silverman, who is currently senior vice president of global strategy, business development and brand management for Marvel Entertainment, will be maximize collaboration with internal partners, licensees, and the newly combined retail organization throughout The Walt Disney Company. Internationally, he will work closely with regional licensing teams to leverage DCP's scale and best practices.

Since new DCP president Bob Chapek took over for Andy Mooney in September, this is the first major executive change announced by DCP as it revamps its business strategy and organization.

Silverman began his career at Marvel Entertainment in 2001 as a corporate attorney and by 2006 was responsible for structuring strategic partnerships and licenses. In 2008, Silverman was promoted to senior vice president, global business development and licensing operations.

Since last year, Silverman  has been responsible for leading Marvel's  integration into Disney; working across Marvel divisions on global strategic matters; and corporate brand management.

Currently based in New York City, Silverman will relocate to DCP's Glendale headquarters.

"Since joining DCP ten weeks ago, my top priority has been leveraging the impressive talent in the Disney and Marvel consumer products teams into a single, integrated licensing business," says Chapek. "As the outlines of that integrated organization emerge, it has become clear that Licensing like Disney Store and Disney Publishing needs a leader who is directly accountable for both long-term strategic planning and day-to-day operations. Josh's trajectory at Marvel and business acumen makes him the ideal leader for this role."
