Caroline Mickler has been appointed master licensing agent for Fifty Shades of Grey brand, based on the adult romance novels that have swept bestseller lists around the world. Mickler has already appointed CopCorp Licensing as the North American agent for the property.

As master licensing agent, Caroline Mickler’s will work to build the program in the U.K. and appoint agents for territories worldwide.

Licensing interest in Fifty Shades of Grey is already strong. Among the diverse categories being discussed by Caroline Mickler for licensing are lingerie/sleepwear, apparel, fragrances, beauty products, bedding, home furnishings, stationery, jewelry and adult products.

The film rights to the trilogy have already been sold and a boxed set of the books is imminent. The main demographic for the brand is likely to be adult women, although male and female gift buyers are also seen as a strong market.

The trilogy of books by British author E. L. James–Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed–tell the story of the relationship between graduate Anastasia Steele and young billionaire Christian Grey. The trilogy began life as digital publishing hits, eventually making their way to mainstream publication. In the U.K., book sales have passed the million mark and in the U.S. 13 million copies have been sold.

CopCorp will be on hand in Booth 5137 at Licensing Expo this week in Las Vegas, Nev.
