BBC Worldwide announced a major new deal to bring Doctor Who into the construction toy market for the first time. The deal is with Character Options' new construction division, Character Building, and the first products are scheduled to hit stores this spring.

Character Building's Doctor Who line will include 3D micro-figures with sculpted facial features and play sets that are uniquely tailored to Doctor Who. Fans will be able to build their own Doctor Who world with their favorite characters including the Doctor, Amy Pond, the Daleks, Cybermen and Weeping Angels.

"We are delighted to build on our existing relationship with Character Options," says Richard Hollis, head of U.K. licensing at BBC Worldwide. "We've worked successfully with them in the past and the quality and imagination they put into their toys is outstanding.  This new venture offers the perfect play pattern for Doctor Who fans and opens up a fascinating and innovative genre. We believe that this is a fantastic new project and we're really excited to see how popular these toys will become."

The new line will be displayed at the Character Options stand at the London Toy Fair. The Character Building construction toys are unique in their use of textured building blocks: spaceship pieces are sleek and smooth, while rocks feel rough.
