Speaking with The New York Times, Netflix has revealed insight into the global viewer numbers that are keeping shows like “Stranger Things” growing in popularity.

With movies like “Bird Box” generating 80 million views and shows like Dark Horse Comics’ “The Umbrella Academy” reaching 45 million, the first look at these rankings offers insight into the trends underway across Netflix’s content.

The TOP 10 ORIGINAL MOVIES include:

  • “Bird Box” – 80m;

  • “Murder Mystery” – 73m;

  • “Triple Frontier” – 52m;

  • “The Perfect Date“– 48m;

  • “Tall Girl” – 41m;

  • “The Highwaymen” – 40m;

  • “Secret Obsession” – 40m;

  • “Always Be My Maybe” – 32m;

  • “Otherhood” – 29m; and

  • “Fyre” – 20m.

TOP 10 ORIGINAL SHOWS include:

  • “Stranger Things” – 64m;

  • “The Umbrella Academy” – 45m;

  • “La Casa de Papel” – 44m;

  • “You” – 40m;

  • “Sex Education” – 40m;

  • “Our Planet” – 33m;

  • “Unbelievable” – 32m;

  • “Dead to Me” – 30m;

  • “When They See Us” – 25m; and

  • “Elite” – 20m.

Just a few hints from the two Top 10 lists in the report reveal that romantic comedies are still popular, with movie stars like Ben Affleck, Sandra Bullock and the cast of “Murder Mystery” still attracting scores of people with big titles for the year. TV shows vary in style and subject, but Latin America and Spanish content is on the rise with fiction, nostalgia and comic book content still standing strong.
