The application uses unique audio watermarking technology that can listen for audio triggers within select episodes to pose questions and quizzes about the events taking place on screen. Correct answers can unlock codes which can be used on the Cartoon Network website for prizes.

The technology is licensed by Austrian start-up Tonio and was tested in the U.K. for half of a school week in October.

“Gumball VIP” will be available in 10 markets over the next six months including the Philippines, Singapore and Italy before the end of the year and in Australia, New Zealand, Poland, Romania, Spain, France and the U.K. in the first quarter of 2019.

The app will be available at Google Play and the Apple store.
