The creative team behind the extended “Star Trek” universe announced details about a new upcoming animated series to air Nickelodeon.

The CGI-animated series will focus on a group of teens who discover a derelict Starfleet ship and use to boldly go on adventures across the galaxy. Nickelodeon’s new series is being developed by Kevin and Dan Hageman. The Hageman’s have previously been responsible for developing animated series “Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu” and “Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia.”

The "Star Trek: Prodigy" announcement came during a “Star Trek” panel at this year’s [email protected] event. At the event, Secret Hideout executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin highlighted upcoming news regarding the “Star Trek” universe including conversations on series “Star Trek: Discovery,” “Star Trek: Lower Decks” and “Star Trek: Picard.”

Along with the recent new series announcements, the “Star Trek” franchise has been busy on the consumer product front. Earlier this year, a new capsule

collection based on the scifi property was announced in partnership with
