The NFL Players Association has partnered with Altered Reality Corp. to create an augmented reality app that allows users to create and interact with holograms of their favorite NFL players.
The “Play3D Augmented Reality (AR) App” brings photorealistic holograms into the camera view of smartphone users’ world and gives them the opportunity to create video clips and other content that can be shared via social media as well as email and text. The app will roll out with an initial seven professional players, Josh Allen, Saquon Barkley, Sam Darnold, Lamar Jackson, Baker Mayfield, Josh Rosen and JuJu Smith-Schuster, with additional players set to be added through the 2018-19 season.
“Through this unique partnership, ARC can capture realistic scans of NFL players, offering football fans a virtual experience like none other,” says Steve Scebelo, vice president, licensing and business development, NFL Players Inc. “As demonstrated by the JuJu experience, the players also have another creative way to engage with fans. We look forward to helping ARC add more of the league’s bright new stars to this transformative app.”
To celebrate the app’s launch, Pittsburg Steelers player JuJu Smith-Schuster is inviting his 2.5 million fans to take part in “JuJu’s Tailgate Party Challenge,” a fan experience that will feature content starring Smith-Schuster’s hologram.
The “Play3D Augmented Reality (AR) App” is available now in the Apple App Store and Google Play store.
