Football club FC Barcelona has surpassed its budget goal for the 2019/2020 season and earned a record turnover of more than $1 billion.

The club presented a turnover of €990 million ($1.089 billion). In total, the number meant Barcelona surpassed its $1 billion barrier a year earlier than expected. The number marks a new record in the sports world.

Barcelona’s score comes in a season during which revenue has increased by 6 percent. The figure was helped by a 24 percent increase in commercial revenues as a result of contributions by new sponsors and improvements in renewal agreements.

In the commercial licenses space, the club’s licensing division, Barça Licensing and Merchandising (BLM), also saw a turnover of €63 million ($69.3 million) for the year.
