New York City's Times Square recently welcomed the new Disney Store, which underwent a major high-tech overhaul this year. The store, the biggest in North America, features a variety of licensed product, including exclusive NYC-themed merchandise, in a 20,000-square-foot space.

The Big Apple Disney Story includes a 20-foot-high Disney Princess castle, along with an interactive talking Magic Mirror.

There's also a Pixar Cars-branded Ridemakerz car building experience, where kids can assemble and customize their own car, featuring Lighting McQueen, Mater and Sally.

A 350-square-foot theater also resides in the store and includes a 12-foot screen that features film clips, sneak previews, music videos and classic animation.

Throughout the store a Pixie Dust Trail and Magical Trees with changing colors, images and music lead shoppers to merchandise by franchise neighborhoods.

In addition, a digital billboard, located 68-feet high above Times Square, will feature exclusive Disney content year round. The billboard is currently showcasing clips from the upcoming Tangled  (Nov. 24) and Tron: Legacy (Dec. 17).

Last week's grand opening event featured a Disney character parade and celebrity guests joined by Iger and NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Besides the Times Square location, this year, 20 of the new high-tech Disney Stores will open in the U.S. and Europe. Later plans include the transition of its remaining more than 300 locations. For each new store opening, Disney Store plans to designate a day for 10 percent of the sales to be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in the U.S., Spain, Italy and Portugal and to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity in the U.K.
