Macy’s to Close 29 Stores

Macy’s has decided to shut down 28 Macy’s locations and one Bloomingdale’s store in the coming weeks.

Macy’s will be shutting down 28 Macy’s locations and one Bloomingdale’s store in the coming weeks, according to

Along with the stores shutting down, Macy’s reported the stores comps on an owned basis fell 0.7 percent over the nine-week holiday period that ended Jan. 4. Comps on an owned plus licensed basis fell 0.6 percent. According to the company press release, sales from departments licensed to third parties saw a growth of 0.1 percent.

The news comes just after the announcement that president Hal Lawton resigned to become chief executive officer of Tractor Supply. He will remain at his post through February 2020.

Macy’s also recently joined the experiential shopping party with new in-store exclusive experiences. In addition to a myriad of exclusive products, Macy’s offered shoppers the ultimate holiday experience with unique experiences offer something different for shoppers.

Specific stores to close have not been revealed  yet, according to

, though one store in

Cincinnati will be included in the shutdowns. According to a

USA Today

report, others include a store in Connect., four in Fla., two in Georgia, one in Idaho, two in Illinois and three in Wash., among others.
