Toys ‘R’ Us Rebrands and Returns in 2019

More than one year after announcing that it would close its doors, Toys ‘R’ Us is reportedly set to reopen with six new stores nationwide.

Toys ‘R’ Us’ new stores, dubbed Tru Kids, is reportedly informing toymakers that it is set to open six new stores around the country this year.

The announcement follows last year’s headline-grabbing news that Toy ‘R’ Us would close all its worldwide stores last year. According to

Bloomberg

,

the new Tru Kids stores are slated to span about 10,000-square-feet, with more experiential offerings including play areas.

Tru Kids will be run by former Toys ‘R’ Us executive Richard Barry. Barry will reportedly minimize startup costs for the company by using a consignment inventory model where toymakers ship goods but don’t get paid until consumers buy them.

Toy ‘R’ Us announced that it would

shutter its store locations

last May after failing to survive bankruptcy in the face of significant e-commerce sales growth.
