More than 27 percent of all U.S. apparel sales were purchased online in 2017, according to Internet Retailer, a complete ranking of the top 1,000 retailers selling in North America by Digital Commerce 360.

During 2017, online apparel purchases grew to 27.4 percent, up from 23.5 percent in 2016 and 20.7 percent in 2015.

According to a February 2018 survey of 2,535 U.S. shoppers by Pyments.com, 43 percent preferred to shop at brick and mortar stores, while 26.9 percent preferred to shop online only and 29.9 percent liked both online and instore shopping.

Of the Internet Retailer 2018 Top 1,000, 266 were dedicated apparel retailer, a number which excludes mass merchant retailers such as Amazon and Walmart.
