DC Thomson has collaborated with British fashion designer Wayne Hemingway and the Hemingway Design team, as well U.K. artist Jon Burgerman, on two new style guides for The Beano brand.
The Beano by Burgerman style guide reflects the classic comic’s ethos–“playing by the rules is overrated”–while the Hemingway style guide introduces humorous comic art, original typography and sound-effect artwork drawn from the DC Thomson archives.
Hype Associates is the first licensee on board with a range of greeting card designs and matching gift-wrap based on the Hemingway guide. Hype’s line is now available at independent shops in the U.K.
“We are thrilled at both Wayne and the Hemingway team and Jon Burgerman’s collaborations with our consumer products team,” says Tim Collins, head of brands, DC Thomson. “Their love of the brand shines through in the style guides that they have produced which are creative and diverse, and I believe that they will appeal to a wide range of licensees.”
A range of DC Thomson licensees are also showcasing new product at Spring Fair this week in the U.K. including the aforementioned Hype, which is showcasing its line of classic Dennis the Menace and Gnasher-branded mini-cards and gift tags, as well as stand-up greetings cards that are now available at John Lewis.
Other items on display include games for adults from The Lagoon Group, gifting stationery and homewares from Wild & Wolf and vintage puzzles from Gibson Games.
